Windows
Poor windows account for 25-30% of heat loss in a home. Most people do not think about replacing their window’s until they are worn out or when they are receiving high energy bills. Replacing single pane windows and regular dual pane windows, can save you money in air conditioning and heating costs, reduce noise, while adding value to your home. Replacing your windows is also a wonderful way to change the look and feel of your home. We strongly recommend replacement windows over retrofit windows as well. Often times, a retrofit window is installed over the top of your existing frame and is trimmed with vinyl to the interior to cover up your old window frame. This window system is keeping out the moisture from the exterior by simply applying a bead of calk to the flange on the outside of your home. If your old window, which is still there, is not properly flashed, then it will force any future moisture issues into the wall cavity of your home. Prolonged moisture to the interior of your wall cavities can lead to mold growth and even dry rot to your framing and siding. Retrofit windows have certain acceptable applications but should not be the majority choice even though it is an accepted practice. By choosing replacement windows we can remove your old window completely, inspect the framing to ensure that you have no dry rot or water intrusion around your windows, properly flash (moisture barrier) in your new windows and provide the proper trim to finish your brand new windows. A retrofit window also causes you to lose 10% or more of you view because of the thickness of the frame which is sitting on top of the frame of your old window right now. Imagine loosing approximately 4-6” of your view left to right and 4-6” top to bottom plus 2” more in the center. A replacement window will not obstruct your view or restrict the natural light from your home as much as a retrofit. Call us today for a demonstration. Don’t waste your money on a cheap fix. We believe in doing it right the first time. New windows that are properly installed will make you love your home a bit more and cringe a bit less when you get your utility bill.
